How to Maintain Good Quality Pool Water

All pool owners want to have crystal clear pool water but it’s easier said than done and many people struggle with issues such as cloudiness and incorrect pH levels. So, what can you do to ensure clear and safe water? At Pool Assist, we offer expert pool service Perth and we know what it takes to get your water looking its best. If you struggle with the quality of your water, we’re here to share our top tips for a healthy pool.

Test your water regularly

One of the biggest issues impacting on the quality of your pool water is the pH level. During the summer months, you should be testing your water on a weekly basis and aiming for a pH of between 7.2 and 7.6. Simply bring your water into your pool shop and they’ll be able to tell you what you need to do if your pool is out of balance.

Run your pump for sufficient time

A lot of people fall into the trap of not running their pool pump for long enough which means that not all of the water has a chance to run through the filter. Run your pump for at least eight hours every day so all the water is properly circulated to avoid issues with water quality.

Remember to maintain your filter

If your filter isn’t maintained properly, it can’t clear dirt and debris from the water efficiently. Keep an eye on your skimmer basket and empty it regularly. Also remember to backwash your sand filter and clean your filter cartridge on a regular basis.

Keep on top of debris

Your filter works hard to pull all of the dirt and debris out of your water and to ensure the filter can handle it, you need to do some of the work. Scoop the surface of your pool on a regular basis to get rid of surface debris which can clog up your filter. If you have a pool vacuum, remember to bring it out to clean the sides and floor of the pool.

Contact your pool technician

If you continually struggle with water quality issues despite doing your best to keep on top of maintenance, it’s probably time to contact with pool technician. Not only can they bring your water up to standard, they can also take a look at your equipment to see if there are underlying issues affecting your water.
