How to Prepare Your Pool For Christmas

Entertaining reaches a whole new level at Christmas when you have a pool – there’s nothing quite like taking a dip on a hot Christmas morning or lazing by the water after lunch. Unfortunately, you do need to get your pool looking pristine in preparation for your visitors. Not sure where to start? We’re here to help! Let’s take a look at what you need to do to get your pool Christmas ready.

Give your pool a clean

If you usually let your pool filter do the hard when it comes to cleaning, it’s time to go the extra mile for the best results. Remove all of the visible debris from the surface of the pool and then get to work with a stuff bristled brush and scrub the sides of the pool, paying special attention to the steps and corners. Once the debris has settled to the bottom, you can bring out your pool vacuum.

Check your pool equipment

Do a quick check of your equipment to make sure everything is working as it should so you can get onto your pool technician if you suspect repairs are needed. Carry out a backwash or wash down your cartridge filter so your pool is ready to take the extra bodies that will be using the pool at Christmas.

Empty your skimmer box

While you’re in cleaning mode, don’t forget to clean out your skimmer box regularly in the lead up to Christmas so your filter is able to do its job properly. If you’ve been scrubbing your pool, there is likely to be extra debris getting collected up so make sure you don’t neglect your skimmer box.

Test your water

One of the most important things you need to do is ensure that your water is safe to swim in. Test the pH of the water, either through an at-home kit or by taking your water into your local pool shop. Your pH should sit between 7.2 and 7.6 for optimal swimming conditions.

Book a pool service

One of the best things you can do to prepare your pool is to organise a professional service. With so many things to think about over Christmas, don’t make things more complicated than they have to be. Your pool technician will give your pool a clean, test your water, add chemicals, check your equipment and generally get your pool looking its best. Remember to book well in advance as a lot of people will have the same idea!
