Our Top 10 Pool Maintenance Tips

We all love enjoying a clean, clear pool, especially in the hot weather, but unfortunately this does require some regular pool maintenance on your part. Although this isn’t a task many of us enjoy, regular maintenance makes all the difference to the health of your pool. Today, we’ll be sharing some of our top swimming pool maintenance tips so you can ensure your pool always looks its best!

  • Check the water level

Ensure that your water level stays at the halfway point of your skimmer box. Keep a close eye on the water level in summer as evaporation can occur quickly!

  • Clean out the skimmer

One of the easiest ways to ensure your filter is able to run efficiently is to check the skimmer box regularly to remove leaves and other debris.

  • Scoop and scrub

Make sure you stay on top of scooping your water to collect debris and scrubbing the sides and steps of your pool with a stiff brush regularly.

  • Balance the pH

To keep your pool safe and healthy, it’s important to keep your pool pH between 7.2 and 7.6. Take your water into your pool shop for testing at least weekly during the summer.

  • Backwash your filter

During the summer months, you should be backwashing your sand filter on a weekly basis to keep it free from build-up.

  • Clean the cartridge

If you have a cartridge filter, check it regularly and hose it off to remove built up dirt. Also look for damage which could impact on the performance of the cartridge.

  • Invest in an automatic cleaner

To make maintenance as easy as possible, consider investing in an automatic pool cleaner – robotic pool cleaners are the best option as the advanced technology means you can just set and forget!

  • Run the pump

To ensure all of the water in the pool is circulated through the filter, run your pool pump for at least eight hours each day during summer and half that in winter.

  • Consider a pool cover

To keep debris out of the pool, prevent evaporation and extend your swimming season, consider investing in a pool cover – there are options to suit your budget and lifestyle.

  • Get professional servicing

If you’d rather leave your pool maintenance to the experts, you can always contact your pool technician to come in and take care of things. This is a particularly helpful option if you’re struggling with issues like water quality.
