Pool Phosphate Levels

As all pool owners are aware, phosphate levels can cause huge problems.

A high pool phosphate level can turn your pool from pristine clear to murky green water, so here a handy guide to help you manage your pools phosphates and maintain that crystal clear water.

An introduction to pool phosphates:

Phosphates are chemical compounds that contain phosphorus.

If they stay in pool water for too long, these compounds will break down into what is known as ‘orthophosphates’, which are a common food source for aquatic plants and algae.

The build up of algae in your pool could be an unsightly, and not to mention dangerous, slip hazard for all swimmers.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to keep your commercial pool a hundred percent free from phosphates.

In saying this, experts all agree that pool owners should aim to uphold near zero levels.

Some easy tips to prevent the build up of phosphate levels in your pool include:

  • encouraging swimmers to rinse off in a shower before entering the pool,
  • vacuuming and cleaning the pool pump baskets and filters on a regular basis,
  • remove any organic matter, including leaves and branches, that fall into the pool as quickly as possible,
  • checking that the ingredients in your water treatment products do not include scum-fighting means that use phosphates.

Pool phosphate solutions

Phosphate reducing solutions are another effective way to keep levels low.

It is recommended to use a 3-in-1 product that utilises phosphate enzymes, remover and clarifier to keep phosphate levels low and improve the quality of your commercial pool water.

By following through with effective maintenance procedures, properly balancing preventive water treatments and creating an efficient plan to combat algae growth, your commercial or domestic pool can be kept free from algae without any hassle.
